Churchill Group awarded SFMI Gold and ‘Rising Star’ awards for sustainability

We have made significant strides in our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices in 2024, following a Silver Award in 2023. Our score increased from 67% to 83%, good enough for a Gold Award from the Sustainable Facilities Management Index (SFMI).

In addition to this achievement, we were also named the SFMI’s ‘Rising Star’ for the second consecutive year.

Our success in the latest SFMI assessment stems from several notable developments. The integration of our ESG dashboard with the Social Value Portal was praised for enhancing real-time progress tracking and delivering measurable social impact. Other standout achievements include:

  • Embedding wellbeing into Health and Safety strategy: A comprehensive approach that prioritises employee wellbeing as a core component of our company’s culture and mission.
  • Advanced emissions reporting: Leading with transparency and accountability in environmental performance.
  • Integrating ESG and social value into contracts: Ensuring sustainability is embedded into our client partnerships and service delivery.
  • Proactive collaboration on ESG with clients: Showcasing a forward-thinking approach that drives mutual value.

Hannah Dales, our head of environment, said: “Sustainability is central to everything we do at Churchill Group, and it is fantastic to be recognised in this way. These achievements underline our commitment to creating value for all stakeholders and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in sustainability. Our next steps are to further improve our risk and opportunities disclosures and developing our biodiversity strategy.”

The SFMI is the only sustainability benchmark dedicated to the UK facilities management sector. Its rigorous assessment evaluates companies across 23 criteria in environmental, society and governance pledges. The full results of the 2024 SFMI assessment can be found in the report ‘FM Leaders Reach the Point Where Sustainability Really Pays (2024)’.
