Meet apprentice Safa Yasin

In National Apprenticeship week, meet another of our apprentices adding value to our business while boosting their own skills.

Safa Yasin, who works in Careline – the main reception area – in Sheffield’s Meadowhall Shopping Centre, is 16 and started her customer service practitioner apprenticeship straight from school after she attended a jobs fair at which Meadowhall was recruiting.

She is working towards a level 2 qualification, which is equivalent to five GCSE passes.

‘Doing this apprenticeship has helped me gain confidence and more of an understanding of what having a full-time job is like,’ she said.

‘My job is to help Meadowhall’s customers with their inquiries and any problems which occur while they are shopping.

‘The apprenticeship has helped me to do my job better, as I have a particular role and work with certain people, so that what I learn is specialised and relates specifically to the department I am in.

‘I feel as though I have come a long way working here, as the people I work with are always supportive and encouraging.

‘Ideally, I would like to progress within Meadowhall, but doing this apprenticeship has helped me gain experience in a customer-facing role and shows that I can work in a professional environment, both as part of a team and as an individual.

‘I would definitely recommend others to do an apprenticeship, as it helps you adjust to the world of work and puts you on the career ladder.

‘It also shows you what you are capable of achieving and helps you to connect with people.’
