We are delighted to announce that the Churchill Group is a finalist in the Technology category at the IWFM Awards 2022. Our entry is for our use of Mo:dus to support ambulance trusts with Make Ready. This comes hot on the heels of our Highly Commended award at the recent Golden Service Awards, which was also for our Make Ready support.
Make Ready is a system that sees ambulance service vehicle(s) prepared by dedicated teams of specialists who clean, restock and check equipment before the beginning and at the end of every shift.
The judges were looking for:
- Tangible positive impact to the workplace and facilities management function
- Genuinely innovative scalable technology-led solutions
- Strategic alignment with the business and/or client(s)
- Value-led initiatives with a genuine RoI
Winners will be announced at the IWFM Awards ceremony in London on 17 October 2022.
Churchill Operations Director, Rufus Fidgeon, said: “Mo:dus has helped Make Ready operatives save time, improve auditing, schedule jobs and offer real-time alerts, all through digitalisation. It also gives trusts complete oversight of ambulance fleets. We’re delighted this has been recognised by the IWFM panel and look forward to sharing more with the judges during the presentation round.”

Benefits of Mo:dus Make Ready
The technology has enabled a series of desirable outcomes in what continues to be a successful long-standing partnership between Churchill and SECAmb:
- Improved infection control rates – In the early stages of the Make Ready project this was substantiated via swab test are undertaken by an independent laboratory on 10% of the vehicles that had been deep cleaned. The results indicate that the repetitive cleaning undertaken at every shift produce a higher standard.
- Critical vehicles failure rates – The trust’s target for vehicles failures at the start of, or during, a shift is four vehicles’ failures in every 25,000 miles. In the Make Ready system there are no failures at the beginning of shifts. When the Make Ready Centre in Thanet began there were about six failures a day compared to a maximum of six a month now. The fewer failures, the more time an ambulance crew is available to respond to patients .
- Deep cleaning – 100% of vehicles are deep cleaned every six to twelve weeks across 17 Make Ready Centres. This involves the vehicles being stripped down of all equipment and furniture and cleaned. The percentage outside the Make Ready system is 75%.
- Equipment failure rates – Under the Make Ready system there are very few failures.
